[edit] Overview
Invader ZIM is the tale of an annoying alien from the planet Irk named Zim, who is sent to Earth in order to get him out of the way and stop him from ruining Operation: Doom 2. Believing this to be a legitimate mission, and determined not to fail the Almighty Tallest whom he serves, he blends in to Earth society, waiting for his moment to strike. Although most do not realize that he is an alien, one boy, named Dib, does - too bad no one believes him! Can Dib convince everyone that Zim is an alien before it's too late? Will Zim ever become an actual viable threat to Earth? These questions and more are raised in this quirky, often dark Nickelodeon animated show.
[edit] Cast and characters
The main cast consits of Richard Horvitz as Zim, Andy Berman as Dib, Rosearikk Riki as GIR (Zim's faithful if woefully inept and unintelligent robot servant), and Melissa Fahn as Gaz (Dib's gothic sister). Other characters include Professor Membrane (Dib and Gaz's father, portrayed by Rodger Bumpass), and Ms Bitters (the children's dark and possibly evil teacher, portrayed by Lucille Bliss).
[edit] Plot
Zim is going to take over Earth by any means necessary. Constantly trying to blend in to human society, he is lucky that the human race is so oblivious, as it is painfully obvious that he is an alien. Zim finds a constant adversary in the face of Dib, who seems to be just as inept at proving Zim is an alien as Zim is at taking over the world. The show is typically quite dark, with Zim even going as far as stealing the organs from children in the school to appear more "human" should he ever be inspected by the nurse. This kind of dark humor was typical throughout the show, and was one of the reasons the show was cancelled after only 27 episodes.
[edit] Setting
The show takes place primarily on Earth, although due to the show's science fiction nature, it frequently sojourns to space and even other dimensions.
[edit] Episode List
There were 27 episodes of Invader Zim completed, although only the first 19 of these were aired before it was cancelled. The rest were included in the DVD box sets, and later aired as "new" episodes on Nicktoons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Invader_Zim_episodes
