Talk:TV Wiki
From TV Wiki
Hello from Wikipedia! Screen shots are now being removed from all episode lists on Wikipedia, but many of us are looking for a way to host an off-site mirror that would include the screen shots. Many of these lists use a template for the episode list formatting. With that template we can automate image placeholders for downstream use without requiring the article text to change. We're looking to have something that can be bot updated (staying in sync) but where screen shots can be uploaded and applied. It was suggested to see if Wikia would be a possible place to host this mirrored copy. Thoughts? -- Ned Scott 02:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ack, note to self, remember to check that watch list every so often. A very late reply, but currently I do not, but from what I've discussed and understand, it would be a fairly simple process. On this same line of thinking, using bots to sync other parts of articles cross Wikia and Wikipedia is something I think could be very useful, and would make some of the basic info maintenance very efficient.
- For myself, I'm going to need to learn a little more about these things before I'm able to do any of this, but I'll certainly prod others into seeing if we can get something like this to work in the near future. -- Ned Scott 22:23, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikia Blogs
This wiki is included in our new Wikia Blogs feature. To get involved, just add snippets of this wiki's best articles to MediaWiki:Blog snippet each day and that content will appear on the Wikia TV Blog. Please see Wiki to blog for an introduction and Wikia Blogs for a list of wikis involved in this. Angela talk 00:56, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Scope
I was wondering what the scope is of this wiki. Can it include articles about any of the following?
- Individual television episodes
- Main characters, recurring characters, and guest characters (including guest characters who appeared in only one episode)?
- Actors, writers, producers, directors, and others involved in the production of a television show
- Trivia
- Lists and categories that span multiple television shows.
I have been interested in was moving television episodes from Wikipedia to somewhere on wikia, since many of those articles are now being redirected. Could the TV Wiki at Wikia be place where I can move the content of those articles? Q0 18:42, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
I've also been interested in lists and categories that have been deleted from wikipedia that some consider "fancruft" or "listcruft". Would the following lists and categories be appropriate here?
- Category:Fictional 1960s births
- Category:Television season finales
- Category:Television season premieres
- Category:Multiple part television episodes

In addition, I've noticed that many television shows have their own wikis at wikia, but this one appears to be for television in general. Does this mean that articles on this wiki duplicate content on other wikis? I find one big wiki preferrable over a bunch of smaller wikis. This way people can add content about television shows that don't yet have their own wiki, and lists and categories can more easily span and link to multiple shows. I don't see it as a problem if content on this wiki duplicates the wikis for individual television shows, so it is probably a good idea that a wiki for television in general exist simulatenously to the wikis about individual shows so that people can choose which wiki they want to edit on. I was also wondering if this wiki includes movies that were specifically made for television or just shows? Q0 18:53, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] german tv wiki
Hi, I was wondering, whether there is a German version of TV wiki or if this wiki is multilingual so that German articles could be incorporated here. There German wikipedia doesn't want episode guides on wikipedia (in contrast to the English wikipedia), so I'm searching for a place where I can find or write all the stuff that's not appropriate for the wikipedia such as: summary of the show, list of episodes, summary of episodes, complete episode content, trivia, relation between episodes, full cast, full guest cast per episode, maybe movie information of some sort. Sure there are several series, which have their own wiki, for those I'd be happy to just link to them. ... Right now I just began the quest of searching for such a wiki as I'm searching for a 1992 guest cast list of some german tv show. And I just thought if I'd found such a wiki and added the cast as far as I know it maybe someone else will add the rest of the cast somewhen later, and in a year or so I'll have my answer.
Anyways, for now I've mainly got the question whether you are an multilingual wiki or whether you'd allow English pages for German shows.

[edit] Scope of TV shows with fan sites
Hi, Is this site only limited to TV shows with wikis on Wikia? Or, can links to the fan sites elsewhere also be included?
